He led England for eight years, a job many describe as the world’s toughest coaching job. You will unite England in a football nation marked by over a hundred years of rivalry. You have to make the English players who fight for Premier League success throughout the season work as a team. Gareth Southgate has succeeded in this, but without the title England have been waiting for for over fifty years being brought home. Before the European Championship finals, the 54-year-old stated that he can now take the biggest job in the Premier League. “After eight years in one of the most high-profile roles in the world of football, I consciously take the time to reflect on what I have experienced and think carefully about what comes next. When I look back, there are struggles and moments that I will remember for the rest of my life. Coaching top players was a challenge that pushed me to deliver at the very highest level. The weight of the role with the unique responsibility it carried was something few ever get the opportunity to experience.., writes Southgate.

“This higher purpose kept me on track, gave me structure, made my life more meaningful, and it will be extremely difficult to replicate. Therefore, I do not limit my future opportunities to remain a football coach. I am comfortable with this period of ‘exploration’ and with not having all the answers,” Southgate writes.
