The Reds, who were looking to recover from the 3-0 loss to Manchester City, delivered another miserable performance.
Goals from Murillo, Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White secured a comfortable 3-0 victory for Sean Dyche’s side, which added to the adversity for Slot.
As a result, the Reds were relegated to 11th place in the Premier League table, and are now 11 points behind league leaders Arsenal, no one believes anymore that Liverpool are capable of defending the title.
After the recent defeat and intimidating performance, Slot are now under increasing pressure after spending over £400 million on new players in the summer transfer window. Amid speculation about the Dutchman’s future, former Manchester United and England player Neville has spoken out about Slot’s position.
He said on the Gary Neville podcast: “There is no way that Arne Slot should be in danger of losing his job. I’ve heard germs; You go on social media and all that nonsense, forget it.
“Some Liverpool fans will say, ‘Don’t talk about my football club like that,’ but come on, let’s have some common sense here. This is a really good manager, who is also a brilliant front figure for the club in the way he acts. He has real class.”
Neville added: “For me, he’s going through a very difficult period. I think he needs to somehow turn around quickly and do something different, intervene and sort out what he thinks could be some really difficult decisions staring him in the face, maybe give the players some help with the composition of the teams he chooses.”
Wayne Rooney urges Arne Slot to make a big change to his starting line-up
Speaking about the team selection, Neville’s former teammate, Wayne Rooney, has urged Slot to consider benching talisman Mohamed Salah.
He said on The Wayne Rooney Show: “Salah doesn’t help them defensively. I’m sure if you’re one of the players they’ve signed, and you’re sitting on the bench and you’ve seen that they’re not running – I understand he’s a club legend and everything he’s done for the club – but if you’re on the bench, what signal does that send if you see one of your teammates not running back and he starts every single game?”
“If I were Arne Slot, I would try to make a big decision just for it to have an impact on the rest of the team. When you don’t win fights, you will remain compact and hard to beat.”
Rooney continued: “While I think they’re going through this period, he [Slot] has to 100% make a decision and get them to be compact, make them hard to beat and make every player run back, and when they start winning games you can bring him back and hope he runs back more. I think it will have an impact on the team, that’s for sure.”
Liverpool are back in action on Wednesday night when they face PSV in the Champions League.
