When we think we’ve seen most of the world of football, new bizarre episodes appear. This one is admittedly more chuckling than shocking.

Chris Wood has only 3 fewer goals than Erling Haaland in the Premier League. The New Zealander has scored Nottingham Forest to a historic position, now only four points behind second-placed Arsenal. That’s why the nation’s great football hero Wood went to national team duty at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

On Friday, Wood scored a hat-trick for New Zealand against Fiji, after 62 minutes the Forest star was taken off the pitch to a standing ovation from the supporters.

As a thank you for the support, Wood went directly up to the stands and signed with his right and left hands.

Ten minutes later, he returned to the New Zealand bench, where the referee came running with the yellow card for Wood.

New Zealand won 7-0, Wood took the yellow card verdict with a smile.

-If it’s the rules, then it’s the rules. I was just trying to be friendly to the fans,” Wood said, according to Reuters.
