When Ruben Amorim was about to take on Manchester City in the Champions League as Sporting coach, the Portuguese put a 17-year-old on the right wing. Quenda did the job, Sporting sent City home to the ball island with a 4-1 loss. United manager Amorim has promised he will not drain Sporting of his favourite players in January, but it is reported that Man United will secure the contract well before the summer transfer window. On Sunday, Quenda made history in Lisbon. Just like Ronaldo before he signed with Man United.

According to A Bola, Manchester United have intensified their pursuit of Quenda and are preparing a bid of €60 million. The plan is that this will happen in the summer, but that the agreement will be secured as early as this winter.

On Sunday, Quenda took to the pitch in the Lisbon derby against arch-rival Benfica. The 17-year-and-eight-month-old right winger was on the pitch for 72 minutes in what was a 1-0 win for Sporting. What was special was that Quenda became the youngest player ever in Sporting CP’s history to participate in the Lisbon derby.

The record was previously held by club legend Ronaldo, who played in the derby against Benfica in December 2002 at the age of 17 years and 10 months.

About half a year after his record, Ronaldo signed for Manchester United. Now Quenda is following the same path. This must be good!
