If you don’t get relegated, you don’t get to feel the enormous joy of being promoted again.
The amazing thing about this year’s season, which is the first full under the ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is that Manchester United are now in 15th place in the Premier League.
One of those who could have saved Manchester United is too long out in the big world. Mason Greenwood, who was the hope for the future at Old Trafford, has been sold cheaply after a loan spell at Getafe, but with a profit-sharing with further sale to Marseille.
The French giant Paris Saint-Germain has felt the body Marseille is strengthened this season. – Although PSG won yet another Ligue 1 triumph this season, Marseille find themselves in a clear second place.
As you probably remember, Manchester United chose to get rid of Mason Greenwood altogether after they found it morally reprehensible to let him back into their ranks after accusations of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.
An internal investigation by the Red Devils determined that the English striker was no longer fit to wear the club’s colours. In the summer, Manchester United sold Mason Greenwood for €26 million, plus a portion of the profit from any further sale.
Greenwood has since scored 14 goals, including five penalties, in 22 Ligue 1 games for OM.
This has caught the attention of PSG, according to Fijaches. In fact, the Parc des Princes club are reportedly willing to pay up to €70 million to their rivals to sign the attacker.
PSG’s interest in Greenwood should be music to the ears of Man Utd, who retain the resale clause on the player that is believed to be valued between 40-50% of his transfer fee. As such, up to €35 million could soon be on its way to Old Trafford.
Any money that Marseille picks up from Greenwood will be pure transfer gain and will go towards the club’s fight to stay within the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Head coach Ruben Amorim has already stressed that Man Utd need to sell before buying this summer, but if Greenwood moves in a £70m deal, this will reduce that need and be seen as bonus money.
You have to scroll far down the Premier League table to find Manchester United. – After 25 games, they have 29 points. Liverpool on the other hand, who are clearly in the lead, have 60 points.
