Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was able to make sure Leicester would survive in the Premier League, didn’t make it swing. A month after the relegation, Manchester United, the legend who has managerial ambitions, was sacked and now, after a lot of back and forth, 43-year-old Martí Cifuentes is in place.

Martí Cifuentes coached Sandefjord from 2018 to 2020 and then one season in Aalborg before managing Hammarby between January 2022 and October 2023. He then took over Queens Park Rangers in the Championship, but was dismissed in the spring of 2024 due to disagreements with club managers.

Now the Spaniard has signed for a new club Leicester City, who were relegated from the Premier League in the spring.

The contract is for three years.

“It’s a great honour to be appointed as Leicester City’s manager. This is a fantastic club with a proud history, and it is a privilege for me to help write the next chapter, says Cifuentes on the club’s website.

Cifuentes replaces Manchester United icon Ruud van Nistelrooy, who left the club at the end of June.

Leicester sensationally won the Premier League in the 2015/16 season.
