Hired on Tuesday night, one of the toughest and most prestigious Premier League games of the season four days later. Michael Carrick is the man for games like this. After spending twelve years of his playing career at the club, then directly into a coaching role until 2022, Carrick needs no run-in. The United management bet on Carrick as the right man for immediate results, we saw a big difference from the previous two games – and the last one with Ruben Amorim.

Darren Fletcher led United to a 2-2 draw with Burnley and exit the FA Cup after losing to Brighton. The U18 coach did the best he could, but we could see an almost relief among the players when Carrick was in place as head coach. After the fantastic 2-0 win against city rivals City, Carrick put into words the atmosphere we had known from the pitch at Old Trafford this Sunday.

“Today was something special. Getting things to fall into place quickly and trying to make a mark on the team. To bring ourselves together and feel emotionally connected to what we want to achieve. I could feel it from both the staff and the players, it was unbelievable,” Carrick told Sky Sports.

Which also does not get carried away by individual victories. One point behind Liverpool in 4th place, Manchester United have set their compass north.

“I don’t get carried away. It’s one win, but that should be a common feeling with this kind of performance,” United manager Michael Carrick said.

We remember when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the chaos from Jose Mourinho at the end of 2018, and immediately gave the players confidence through laughter, hard work, close and understandable coaching, unity and 14 wins in the first 19 games. Carrick has now given United the first dose of “Solskjaer effect”. We love it!
