Marc-Andre ter Stegen has chosen not to take advantage of an immediate transfer opportunity to leave Barcelona this summer.

La Blaugrana are open to the German international leaving in the coming weeks, amid major changes in many Hansi Flick’s plans for next season.

The club have secured a deal to sign Joan Garcia from Espanyol, and the new star is expected to take over as first choice in goal immediately.

Veteran Wojciech Szczesny is willing to sign an extension until 2027, with the Polish goalkeeper ready to accept a backup full-back role behind the highly valued Garcia.

Ter Stegen’s high salary is the main reason why Barcelona want to get him away, and the 33-year-old is likely to share the backup goalkeeper role with Szczesny if he stays.

Barcelona needs a good offer

To secure a departure, Barcelona must receive a tempting offer for Ter Stegen, with the Premier League mentioned as a possibility.

Chelsea, Manchester United – and potentially Manchester City – are all looking for a new goalkeeper, but as of now, there have been no offers from England.

Barcelona are willing to accept a reduced transfer fee for the former Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper, as his salary is the biggest expense the club wants to get rid of.

Ter Stegen rejects AS Monaco offer

According to reports from Marca, French club AS Monaco are the first to make an offer, along with a loan proposal for Ansu Fati.

Monaco are confident of striking a deal to sign Fati – with an option to buy at the end of the 2025/26 season – but Ter Stegen has so far rejected them.

Despite the possibility of being the first choice for a team playing in the UEFA Champions League next season, Ter Stegen wants to talk to Flick before making a decision on what to do next. But a new offer could come if he is encouraged to leave Catalonia.
