The Gunners look set to miss out on their first goal on the left wing, as Athletic Club star Nico Williams has decided to go for a move to Barcelona. Although the transfer is complicated financially, the Blaugrana are ready to sign the Spanish star after failing in their attempts in the past.

This has forced Arsenal to look elsewhere, with the club still desperate to strengthen the left wing. Several names are being considered, including Real Madrid superstar Rodrygo and Newcastle striker Anthony Gordon.

Expensive options
According to Ben Jacobs, Arsenal registered their interest in Rodrygo as early as May, but it is understood that he will be very expensive. Real Madrid will demand at least €90 million if the player wants a transfer.

So far, however, Rodrygo has shown no signs of wanting to leave the club. That could change if new head coach Xabi Alonso doesn’t guarantee him regular playing time, but for now, the player is happy at Madrid.

Gordon a more realistic goal?
This could make Gordon a more achievable target for Arsenal, although he won’t be easy to pick up either. The England international signed a new long-term contract just last year.

The Athletic confirms that Gordon is admired by Arsenal’s management, but Newcastle are said to be “confident” that they can fend off interest in key players, including the 24-year-old.

Newcastle in strong position
The Magpies managed to qualify for the Champions League and, after a few transfer windows with limited use of funds, believe that they no longer need to sell key players to avoid breaching the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Last summer, Gordon was accused of being distracted when Liverpool, the club he supported as a child, showed interest. It remains to be seen whether a move to Arsenal will have the same appeal for a player who seems at home at St. James’ Park.
