Guardiola was of course asked about the sensational appointment of Klopp’s right-hand man.

“I mentioned that I was considering Pep (Pepijn Lijnders), and Klopp gave me his opinion, which was of course very positive. He was his right-hand man during one of the most successful periods for Liverpool in recent years,” Guardiola begins, according to The Athletic.

“I asked Jürgen for permission because I didn’t want to get too involved. I asked him if it would be a problem if I talked to him. Absolutely not, was the answer. So I talked to him, we talked a bit, and after a day or two we decided to try,” Guardiola says.
