On Wednesday, Manchester City sent Newcastle out of the English League Cup. Pep Guardiola, Haaland and the gang are going to the final at Wembley, but one of the City players will have to be content with watching. Guardiola is demanding a rule change.

Marc Guehi failed to register until the first semi-final, and therefore he is also not qualified for the final – something Guardiola finds difficult to understand.

“Hopefully we can come up with players who are fit and hopefully we can convince the Carabao Cup that Marc (Guehi) can play in the final, because it’s hard to understand. The club has made a big investment to get a player,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.

City’s other winter signing, Antoine Semenyo, was registered before the semi-final against Newcastle and is therefore also available for the final.

Pep Guardiola hopes that Manchester City can convince those responsible for the tournament that Marc Guehi can also play in the final.

“Hopefully we write a letter and hopefully the Carabao Cup – or whoever it is – can understand that when you buy a player for a lot of money and he can’t play because of a rule, I don’t understand it. Hopefully they can change that,” Pep concludes.
