The German manager has ruled out a Blaugrana player for the upcoming season.

FC Barcelona has made an important decision regarding their sporting planning: Gerard Martín has been put on the transfer list. The left-back, who had a supporting role last season as an alternative to Alejandro Balde, could leave the club this summer. Jofre Torrents’ meteoric evolution has completely changed the picture, leaving Gerard without a real place in the new structure Hansi Flick wants to implement.

At just 18 years old, Torrents has impressed the new coaching staff with his maturity, defensive aggressiveness, and ability to participate in attacks. This has convinced Flick that the young academy player can take on the role of second left-back, leaving Gerard Martín without a place in the squad. In light of this new situation, sports director Deco is already working on a departure for him.

Hansi Flick does not count on Gerard Martín
The club prioritises a permanent sale, but is considering including clauses that allow for retaining some control over the player’s future, such as a buy-back option or a percentage of future transfers. Gerard, whose contract expires in 2026 and is valued at €15 million, has stakeholders in the Premier League, a league where his profile could be a better fit.

Flick’s approval strengthens the operation, as the German coach believes that Barça have enough options on the left wing thanks to the versatility of some players and Torrents’ potential. Although Gerard Martín’s departure was not part of the original plans, his professionalism and good performances have not been enough to convince the new coach. If the transfer goes through, it will be another sign of the club’s commitment to generational change and talents from La Masia.
