Okay, it didn’t stand or fall on Harry Kane, but there is no doubt that the Tottenham legend had an influence in Mathys Tel’s signing to Spurs. The French 19-year-old first blocked a transfer to the London club, then after United’s failed attempt and a lengthy chat with Kane, the French super-talent turned around and bought a plane ticket to London.

Last week, Tottenham’s €60 million bid for Mathys Tel was approved by Bayern Munich, but the 19-year-old blocked the transfer because Manchester United were also interested. Then United pulled out when they realized the Bayern management was not willing to give in to the negotiations. On Deadline Day, Tel was back on the Tottenham track and made the decision to sign.

In his first interview with his new club, Tel said he had been advised by Kane to put on the Tottenham shirt.

According to The Athletic, Spurs landed a lease deal for the rest of the season, with a €55 million option baked into the contract with Bayern Munich. This was clearly a very important signing for Tottenham, Harry Kane also vouches for Tel.

-It is a great move for both parties. Mathys is a great guy, very hardworking… It’s great for Tottenham to have a young, hungry player with a ton of talent to hopefully score some goals and help push Tottenham as far as possible. Wish him all the best and hope he has a fantastic time there. I know he will do it and I’m sure all the fans will make him feel very welcome as well,” Kane said, according to Goal.
