United defender Maguire, who began his return from international play on Friday, was sent off for a free kick on Evanilson, allowing Bournemouth substitute Junior Kroupi to equalise on penalties in the 81st minute.
The away side were twice on the verge of coming within four points of Manchester City in second place after Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring battle from the penalty spot, and an own goal by James Hill restored the lead after Ryan Christie’s first equaliser.

But United will instead have to look over their shoulder against chasing packs Aston Villa, Liverpool and Chelsea after dropping points for only the third time in ten games in the top flight under head coach Michael Carrick.
In an action-packed second half, the away side felt unfairly treated when they were denied another penalty after a potential foul by Adrien Truffert on Amad Diallo, just before Christie equalised.
Bournemouth remain 10th in the table after extending their unbeaten streak to 11 games with their fifth straight draw and the 15th of the season.
