Chairman of the board Leiv Helge Kaldheim says the following about the decision:
“We want to thank Toni for the effort he has put in for us in a demanding football year on the men’s side. He has shown great dedication to the job as head coach, despite the tough conditions he took over during the spring of last year. Nevertheless, we believe that a change of coach will give us better opportunities for sporting development.
“This is of course a difficult decision to make, and the timing for such a move is rarely optimal. However, we believe that new impulses are necessary in the short term to bring out the potential in the group of players, and to develop FK Haugesund in the direction we want over time.
“We will use the time needed to get a new head coach in place.
Korkeakunnas joined the club in May 2025 and led the team through the second half of the season. Toni Korkeakunnas has managed the Finnish big club Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi on several occasions and had several different roles for the Finnish national team.
