Gary O’Neil only has today’s game against Ipswich Town to save his job.
In the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the boss under fire has been working “with his hands tied behind his back” this season.
Wolves lost some of their best players during the summer transfer window in Pedro Neto and Max Kilman, but were unable to replace them, making O’Neil’s job significantly more difficult than necessary.
The 41-year-old has been open about that challenge recently, and if he is sacked it could be seen as a cost-saving measure by the club as O’Neil made it clear that he needs financial support after the West Ham defeat.
The Midlands giants are currently 19th in the Premier League table after their first 15 games, having won just two games this season.
Wolves are four points behind the safety but would skip Ipswich in the table if they were to secure a win on Saturday (14 December).
O’Neil has been under pressure at Molineux in recent weeks due to fans starting to turn against him and the club has been working for a while to find alternatives.
