Hugo Gaston punished severely for his action at the Madrid Open. The French tennis player tried to deceive the referee, wanting to force a replay of the point. Now he will pay a penalty for it, which will be almost as much as he earned so far this season.
The shocking event took place during the match of the 1/32 finals at the Madrid Open. In the first set against Borna Corici, when Hugo Gaston was defending a set point, he tried to force a replay by deliberately putting the ball into play which he had in his pocket. However, the referee noticed what Gaston had done and punished him.
This is Gaston’s fourth foul play of this kind. Although the Frenchman finished the match, he lost, and the cheating case was reported to the tennis authorities. Hugo Gaston was fined €144,000. If the tennis player does not commit similar behavior on the court within the next year, the penalty will be reduced by half.
