Liverpool may have to find a new manager in the near future after a very disappointing period under Arne Slot. And this week, a potential replacement appeared – in the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Merseyside club suffered an embarrassing 0-2 defeat in Paris, without a single shot on target in a miserable 90 minutes. – One reason may have been the manager’s somewhat strange decision to save the club’s best goalscorer.

The only thing that can save Arne Slot’s job now is to win the Champions League – It could be difficult, now that they are down by two goals to the reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Admittedly, they have the second leg in England to turn the situation around, but the biggest concern right now is the team’s performance under Slot overall. – The pressure is increasing on the Dutchman, who desperately needs to turn the ship around – at the same time as Liverpool now risk not qualifying for the Champions League this season.

The Champions League is the only trophy Liverpool can still win. They have been knocked out of all other tournaments.

The nail in the coffin? Liverpool must switch to ‘elite’ manager – no need to wait

This is a worrying period for Liverpool.

According to a report by Football Fan Cast, Xabi Alonso’s agent, Iñaki Ibáñez, was present during Liverpool’s Champions League match against PSG.

It’s unclear why Ibáñez was at the game, but it’s definitely interesting – especially considering Slot is under a lot of pressure, while Alonso has long been linked with Anfield.

It is claimed that Ibáñez took a private plane from San Sebastián to Paris earlier this week to participate in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Alonso, who has been described as an “elite” manager, is reportedly open to a move to Liverpool if the club decides to part ways with Slot in the near future.

Now Liverpool have to make a decision: do they relieve Slot of his duties? And they might even consider doing it as soon as possible.

A change of coach could be just what it takes to secure Champions League qualification. And it feels like Slot is on its way out in the near future anyway – so why wait?

Not delivering any trophies – or even qualifying for Europe – the season after winning the league is completely unacceptable. Especially after they spent such huge sums in the last transfer window.

Alonso is free, available and ready for Liverpool. FSG just have to take the plunge.
