Eirik Horneland’s Saint-Étienne experienced a bitter evening when, after a promising start, they completely collapsed against Paris Saint-Germain, with an ultimately stinging 1-6 defeat at home at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
The game started dreamlike for the hosts when Lucas Stassin put Saint-Étienne in the lead after only 9 minutes. Horneland’s men managed to hold on to this lead until the 43rd minute, when PSG finally found their rhythm.

Total collapse
After half-time, PSG showed why they are on their way to the league gold. The visitors turned the game into a single goal show:
- Gonçalo Ramos
- Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
- João Neves
- Ibrahim Mbaye
- Désiré Doué (2 goals)
With this victory, PSG are now a full 22 points clear of Marseille, who earlier in the day lost 1-3 to Stade Reims. Theoretically, Monaco and Nice can still challenge PSG, but with only 21 points left to play for, the league title seems like a matter of form.
Horneland’s challenges
For Norwegian Eirik Horneland, the situation is becoming increasingly pressing:
- The team is now second-to-last in Ligue 1
- Haven’t won in 11 games in a row
- Must find solutions quickly to avoid relegation
While PSG can start planning league celebrations, Horneland and Saint-Étienne will have to find the answers to a very difficult situation. The next game will be an important away game against Strasbourg, who are also fighting in the bottom battle.
