AC Milan has officially terminated the contract of Paulo Fonseca, who had only just taken charge of the Italian club this past summer. The agreement was set to run until June 30, 2027, but the Portuguese manager was shown the exit door midway through his first season.
Milan’s decision to sack coach Paulo Fonseca after their 1-1 home draw against Roma came with precise timing, allowing the club to pay just a third of what they would’ve owed the manager by firing him a few weeks later.
The Portuguese boss had a contract with the Rossoneri running until the summer of 2027, but recent reports claimed that the deal also included a clause permitting Milan to pay him only one year’s salary in case he was sacked within the opening six months of his stint.

Following Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Roma, Milan’s management decided to part ways with head coach Paulo Fonseca. Now, the compensation the Portuguese manager will receive for his dismissal has been disclosed.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan will pay Fonseca €1.7 million as severance for terminating his contract early.
Under the terms of his agreement, the club is not obligated to pay Fonseca his salary for the second year of the contract.
Sergio Conceição, who spent seven years coaching Porto, has been appointed as Milan’s new head coach.
