If
you ask Tottenham management and former coach Ange Postecoglou which two players are most important to Tottenham, Cristian Romero is definitely one of them. With a horrendous Premier League season and the big clubs in La Liga actively trying to persuade the Argentine world champion, Romero has been warned of his way away for the past six months. A real sporting disaster for the London club, now there are signals Tottenham may be “saved”.
Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid have been very active in bringing Romero to La Liga. Now, The Athletic reports that Atletico have chosen to stop their pursuit of the Argentine centre-back.

This means that the Tottenham management can breathe a sigh of relief – for the first time. While Atletico are turning to other options for central defence, Spurs are taking advantage of the breathing space and are now working on extending Romero’s contract which runs until 2027. With the Europa League title and Champions League ticket and Thomas Frank to lead the ship, the club should be in a stronger negotiating position than six months ago.
For Thomas Frank extremely important to start the season with one of the world’s best centre-backs.
