For several weeks, tennis has been talking about Hubert Hurkacz over and over again. The Pole wowed the world when he put Novak Djokovic to the test at Wimbledon, and later was one ball away from winning against Carlos Alcaraz (number 1 in the ranking) in Toronto and Cincinnati. Now that the US Open has started, tennis legends suggest that the Pole may be a tournament sensation.

In recent weeks, Hubert Hurkacz has been playing his best matches so far this season and is getting closer to a sensational win. The Pole has improved his tennis so much that the biggest tennis media write about him non-stop. Now, after fierce duels with Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, two tennis legends point to him as a potential US Open sensation.

The US Open has just started and Hubert Hurkacz is in action. Hurkacz may run into Rublev or Medviediev. He can also meet Carlos Alcaraz again in the semi-finals. Does Hurkacz have a chance to go that far in the last slam of the season? His last two matches week after week against Carlos Alcaraz, who is the leader of the rankings, indicate this. The legend of Polish tennis also believes in Hurkacz’s good start in the US Open.

-I am optimistic about the performance of Hubert Hurkacz in the US Open. Although the statistics from New York so far do not speak in his favor, but in general the Poles have never fared well in this tournament. However, I believe that Hubert will achieve great success in this year’s edition and will go further than I did in 1980, in which I was close to the semi-final. Jimmy Connors, Bjoern Borg and John McEnroe were already waiting there. In his current form, Hubert is for me the third best tennis player in the world on hard courts. The top world leaders are failing. The draw worked out very favorably for him. Hubert knows Rublev and Medvedev well. He knows how to fight them and win. To be honest, I fear John Isner the most out of this company. The favorites of the upcoming US Open will of course be Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, followed by Janik Sinner. Hubert is my favourite. I have a feeling that it’s high time for a Pole to play in a grand slam final. Huber deserved it. I believe that there is a good chance in this year’s US Open that he will advance to the final or win. If my forecasts come true, I have no choice but to fly to New York and personally support him and Iga Swiatek in the decisive phase of the tournament – said Wojciech Fibak in an interview with Fakt.

John McEnroe, quoted in Fibak’s statement, also had something to say about Hurkacz at the US Open.

-I think Hurkacz is playing much better now than he has all year and I don’t think anyone will want to run into him at the US Open – McEnroe said.
