Jürgen Klopp was back at Liverpool last week as assistant coach to Kenny Dalglish during a Legends match against another of his old clubs, Borussia Dortmund. Seeing the German back in the club’s training kit made fans of the Premier League team reminisce and ask themselves if he would ever return to the bench.

That talk has only increased after Arne Slot’s first game back after the international break ended with Liverpool being crushed 4-0 by Manchester City. The Dutchman’s job has felt threatened for many months now, after a poor title defence and several very disappointing results.

There has been a demand for former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso as Slot’s potential successor, but it would be hard to find a Liverpool supporter who didn’t want Klopp back. According to one of the players on his Legends team last week, it’s a concrete possibility.

Klopp lifted the Premier League and Champions League at Anfield during an incredible nine-year reign, transforming the club from a sleeping giant to a European superpower. Now Vladimir Smicer has sensationally claimed that he believes it is inevitable that Klopp will one day become Liverpool manager again.

This comes after the retired midfielder played for Liverpool Legends, and he got the opportunity to spend time with the German icon. Smicer stated according to GMS: “To see Jürgen Klopp back at Anfield was incredible. I never played under him, so it was fantastic to see him personally as a coach.

“This time he was just an assistant coach to Kenny Dalglish. It was funny when he said that this is the easiest job he has ever had.”

“He’s very charismatic and incredibly popular with Liverpool fans. It was wonderful to be close to him, to talk to him. I got a few chances to discuss things. It was fantastic,” Smicer continued.

The 52-year-old player, who scored in the biggest Champions League comeback ever in the 2005 final against AC Milan, went on to speak highly of Klopp. Smicer believes it would be “impossible” to say no to Klopp if he wants to return in the future. Therefore, he believes it is inevitable that he will be back in the leadership later, adding:

“He is very funny, he has a good mood and always brings a good atmosphere. It was fantastic to see him back. Because of him, the stadium was also packed. I think people love him at Anfield and it was a great day.”

“If you ask anyone at Liverpool if Jürgen Klopp should come back one day, of course everyone will say yes. He has something special about the Liverpool fans, the city and the football club. That’s for sure, definitely.”

“I think that if he wants to go back, it will be difficult to say no. Actually, I think it’s impossible. I think we’ll see him back one day.”
