Iga Swiatek advanced to the semi-finals of Indian Wells. The Polish woman is the defender of last year’s title in this tournament. Thanks to this win, Swiatek made history again. She became the fourth female tennis player in history to win 16 times in a row in the Sunshine Double.
Iga Swiatek is the winner of last year’s Indian Wells and Miami Open. These two back-to-back tournaments that take place in March in the United States are often called the Sunshine Double. Swiatek has just scored her 16th consecutive victory in the Sunshine Double. Thanks to this, she joined a very respectable and elite group.
Iga Swiatek is only the fourth player in history who managed to win at least 16 matches in a row during the Sunshine Double. Before that, only Steffi Graf and the Williams sisters had done it. Iga Swiatek can improve her record because the semi-final in Indian Wells is ahead of her. In the match of the 1/2 finals, the Polish woman will face Jelena Rybakina, with whom she lost in this year’s Australian Open. If Swiatek wins, she will face the better of the pair Maria Sakkari-Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
