Turmoil on and off the pitch
Liverpool are facing an avenging end to the season. On the pitch, Arne Kind’s team must rise after being knocked out of the Champions League and lost the League Cup final, while at the same time they must hold on to their 12-point lead over Arsenal.
Off the pitch there is also hectic activity:
- Trent Alexander-Arnold has turned down a new contract and is going to Real Madrid on a free transfer.
- Virgil van Dijk has yet to decide on his future, and Fabrizio Romano confirms that he has not decided to stay or leave.
- Mohamed Salah is having one of the best seasons in Premier League history, he could also leave for free this summer.
Salah is expected to be
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, there is now an increasing likelihood that Salah will extend his contract with Liverpool. His main stakeholders, Al-Hilal, have not engaged in contract talks, as they have not received any signal from Salah that he wants a Saudi adventure.
Jacobs claims that Al-Hilal would only move on if Salah showed interest, but that has not happened. Liverpool are therefore confident that he will stay, even if negotiations may take time. – There is not much to go on in terms of salary, Mohamed Salah already brings in over 20 million euros a year, while Saudi Arabia is said to have offered 10 times.

No fear of Saudi transfer
Liverpool have “no worries” that Salah will be tempted by the huge salaries in Saudi Arabia. The Pro League clubs should instead focus on other top players such as:
- Vinícius Júnior (Real Madrid)
- Darwin Núñez (Liverpool)
- Gabriel Magalhães (Arsenal)
- Mohammed Kudus (West Ham)
With Salah’s continued superb form and lack of Saudi interest, it looks like Liverpool could keep their “Egyptian King” – although the club are wary of giving an overpriced deal to a 32-year-old.
A new contract would be a huge boost for Liverpool before next season.
