The attitude towards Liverpool mananager Arne Slot is yes please both sign Anthony Gordon and keep Luis Diaz.

Alexander Isak isn’t the only Newcastle United player Liverpool are keeping an eye on – two separate sources claim that Arne Slot’s side are planning to sign another of Eddie Howe’s stars from St. James’ Park.

Liverpool have been very active in the summer transfer window and have already spent almost £300 million to bolster the squad that comfortably beat the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City to the Premier League title last season. Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Armin Pecsi, Freddie Woodman and Giorgi Mamardashvili are the new players in Arne Slot’s stable.

The Reds are also on the hunt for a new centre-back and want a deal with Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi this summer.

According to Liverpool Echo journalist Ian Doyle, Liverpool are keeping their interest in Newcastle striker Isak, despite signing Ekitike after the Magpies rejected their approach to the Swedish international.

However, the Merseyside club have lost some players from last year’s squad: Jarell Quansah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher have left the club for Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid and Brentford respectively.

Luis Diaz could also be on his way out of Liverpool, with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich interested in the Colombian international.

Gordon could replace Diaz – “he loves Liverpool”

If Diaz leaves the club, Liverpool will need a replacement – and Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon could be that player.

TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent Fraser Fletcher reported on June 4 that Liverpool are seriously interested in Gordon, who is one of the best left-wingers in the Premier League and whose “speed is terrifying”, according to former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher on Blood Red: Liverpool FC in August 2024.

There has since been speculation that Liverpool could make a late attempt at Gordon in this transfer window, with Newcastle reportedly looking for at least £100m for the 24-year-old England international.

TBR journalist Graeme Bailey has now revealed that Gordon – who is a lifelong Liverpool fan despite playing for Everton and was close to a move from Newcastle to Anfield last summer – loves the Reds and would like to join Arne Slot’s squad as a potential replacement for Diaz, if all parties can agree a deal.

Bailey told TBR
: “There are some pieces that need to fall into place here, but Anthony Gordon and Liverpool can get back on the agenda. If Diaz leaves, I wouldn’t rule out Gordon. If a left winger like Diaz disappears, Liverpool will bring someone in. They have spoken to Rodrygo, but Gordon is definitely a possibility. We know that they have considered him before, and that Liverpool is his dream club after they emerged as an option when he left Everton. So Gordon is very interesting.”

He added
: “I’m not saying he’s unhappy at Newcastle, but he didn’t finish the season on a high. He had to fight for his place and was dropped at times. Gordon would go to Liverpool without hesitation – that’s his heart. He loves them and wants to play for them. I think it’s inevitable that Gordon will end up at Liverpool at some point – either this summer, next or the year after. But I think he will end up at Anfield in the end.”

New source confirms Liverpool’s interest

Bailey is not the only transfer journalist who has heard about Liverpool’s interest in Gordon. Reliable reporter Ben Jacobs also supports the Premier League champions in making a move for the winger.

Jacobs has also suggested that Liverpool prefer Gordon to Rodrygo, and James Pearce of The Athletic confirms that they do not see the Brazilian Real Madrid player as a replacement for Diaz.

Jacobs said on Grizz Khan’s YouTube channel
: “If they’re going to strengthen the left wing, there’s a chance Liverpool bring up Anthony Gordon again. It’s a situation to keep an eye on. Rodrygo – it’s not that Liverpool don’t appreciate him, but the idea that they are in Madrid or ready to bid feels rushed right now. With Gordon, it’s more concrete. 12 months ago, they were close to an agreement. Had Newcastle not sold Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton, they would have ended up in financial difficulties, and Gordon would have been signed for around £75 million. But Newcastle found other solutions. Since it’s only been a year, you shouldn’t just think about Rodrygo – if Diaz leaves, Liverpool may well reconsider Gordon.”
