Rumours of a move for Edeson to Turkish club Fenerbahce started around the same time as dissatisfaction with manager Jose Mourinho was increasingly finding its way to the media.

But now we know that is not the case, Jose Mouriho has been fired and Ederson has landed in Istanbul on Monday to complete a transfer, at the airport there was of course a crowd of Fenebahce fans in place.

Ederson is leaving Man City to join Fenerbahce.

Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson has moved permanently from Manchester City to Turkish club Fenerbahce.

The 32-year-old is leaving Manchester City after eight years with the club, where he helped them win six Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Fenerbahce have agreed to pay £12.1 million for a player who made 372 appearances across all competitions for City following a £35 million move from Benfica in 2017.

City signed goalkeeper James Trafford from Burnley this summer and have struck a £26 million deal to sign Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris St-Germain on a five-year deal.

Ederson also won the FA Cup twice with City and helped manager Pep Guardiola’s side claim the treble in 2022-23.

“I leave Manchester City incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and I am honoured to have worn the shirt so many times,” he said.

“Under Pep, we have won and dominated the Premier League and conquered Europe. It’s been fantastic.”

Ederson was a Champions League winner in 2023 with Manchester City.

Ederson added: “I arrived in Manchester eight years ago full of hope, but I couldn’t have predicted such a beautiful time together.”

“Playing for City has been the most special time of my life and I will always be a supporter of this special club.”

“I’m leaving with my wife and kids, but I’m leaving a big family here, the Cityzens. Once a Blue, always a Blue.”

Not only did Ederson keep 122 clean sheets from 276 Premier League games, but he also recorded seven assists in the competition.

Former Liverpool player Bruce Grobbelaar is the only other goalkeeper to have won six English top division titles.

“The fact that no goalkeeper has ever won multiple Premier League titles says everything you need to know about his quality and consistency in a City shirt,” said City’s sporting director Hugo Viana.

“He has been a huge figure in all of our successes over the last few years and his skills and courage have been instrumental in helping City play the beautiful football we have seen. He has really cemented his place in Manchester City’s history.”
