Former Manchester United player Scott McTominay scored two goals as Napoli secured an important victory over Torino
Antonio Conte’s Napoli took an important step towards the Serie A title on Sunday, and former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay was the focal point again.
Napoli won 2-0 over Torino at the Diego Maradona Stadium after Inter Milan surprisingly lost at home to Roma. Thus, Napoli are now three points ahead of Inter in the battle for the Scudetto.

The close battle at the top of the table increases the chance that Inter and Napoli could finish on the same score, which could lead to a replay to crown the champion. But if McTominay continues in the same style, Napoli may not need such a decision.
McTominay – Naples’ new hero
The Scotland international scored both of Napoli’s first-half goals on Sunday – his 10th and 11th goals in Serie A.
McTominay has quickly become a favorite in the discerning Italian sports media, especially at Gazzetta dello Sport.
Italy’s leading sports newspaper renewed its love for the former United player on Sunday, calling him a “genius” after another great effort.

“Scott McTominay is a genius,” Antonio Giordano wrote.
It’s starting to look like that. The English-born Scot now has more Serie A goals than Paul Gascoigne and is on the verge of winning the league – something Gazza failed to do during his time at Lazio.
From Manchester United to Naples – a success story
McTominay signed for Napoli last summer for a transfer fee of €30.5 million, ending a 20-year relationship with Manchester United.
Although he often scored important goals for United and has shown the same ability for Scotland, few expected him to flourish so much in a Napoli shirt.
He wasn’t the only Scottish goalscorer on the pitch on Sunday. His national teammate Che Adams has nine goals for Torino since his transfer last year, but McTominay passed another Torino player to become Scotland’s all-time top scorer in Serie A.
“McTominay’s double took him to 11 goals this season – and past Denis Law, who scored 10 for Torino in 1961-62, as the highest-scoring Scottish player in a single Serie A season.”
Scudetto dream in your own hands
Napoli are now in control of their own destiny in the title race. The remaining games are against Lecce, Genoa, Parma and Cagliari – all possible points scoring opportunities.
If McTominay continues to deliver, it could be a historic season for both him and Napoli.
