This summer, Arsenal legend Henry led France’s Olympic team to silver on home soil. A solid performance, but the French do not collect second places in football. After stumbling as coach of Monaco and a stint as MLS coach of the Montreal Impact, the 47-year-old is called in for the big job. Here Thierry Henry comes “home”.

Henry has previously been an assistant coach for the Belgian national team for several rounds. The Frenchman was in the picture when successful coach Roberto Martinez had done his part in 2022. Henry was weighed too lightly this time around, even though several of the biggest stars openly said they wanted the Frenchman as head coach.

Now it is expected that Domenico Tedesco will be finished as Belgium national team coach within a few days. The loss against France in October was sour, the loss against Italy in November was bitter, the loss against Israel in the same month was unforgivable for the nation that has played its way to ranking as one of the very best in the world.

According to Belgian HLN, it is between Thierry and Rudi Garcia, who has been without a job since exiting Napoli in 2023.

We’re rooting for the Arsenal legend. Time for Henry to be given confidence in the big job on the way to the 2026 World Cup. He showed during the Olympics on home soil that he can handle the pressure of a major championship.
