The former Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea striker has suffered another significant setback in his attempt to leave Manchester United this summer.

The 25-year-old English left winger was brought to Manchester United in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million.

He was never able to break through in Manchester, with only 12 goals and six assists in 83 appearances.

After a public altercation with Erik ten Hag in August 2023, he was banished from the first team for the first half of the season.

In January, he returned to Borussia Dortmund on a six-month loan, where he helped the German team reach the final of the Champions League.

Although they lost the final to Real Madrid, it was enough to arouse interest from Chelsea.

Last summer, Sancho went to London and signed for Chelsea on loan with a mandatory purchase clause.

He made 41 appearances for the Blues and scored five goals, including one in the Conference League final as Chelsea claimed European glory.

However, Sancho and Chelsea did not reach an agreement on personal terms, and the club paid a £5 million penalty fee to send the Englishman back to Old Trafford.

He now returns to Old Trafford with Rúben Amorim as the new manager, but his future at the club remains uncertain.

The relationship between Sancho and the supporters is strained after the altercation with ten Hag and the comments he has made about the club since.

There have been rumours of a return to Borussia Dortmund, but sporting director Sebastian Kehl has dismissed the speculation.

He said, “Of course, we have a connection with Jadon in a way, because we have a very long history together. But we have other priorities right now, so the Sancho case has perhaps been played up more in the media than it has been discussed internally.”

Where does Sancho fit in at United?

With a Dortmund return unlikely, United fans will probably have to prepare for Sancho to stay.

But finding a place for him in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system will be difficult.

Matheus Cunha has already been signed from Wolves for £62.5 million to play on the left wing.

And talks are underway with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, who will be used on the right wing.

Mason Mount and Amad Diallo are both expected to be at United next season and will provide competition in attack.

Even if United try to sell Antony, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, it could be difficult to get a sale at the desired price.

Sancho only has one year left on his contract at United, but unless another club makes contact, the club will probably have to prepare for his return.
