Young James Trafford was sure he had signed the gold contract this summer. One of the world’s biggest clubs knocked on Burnley’s door, put £15 million on the table and signed Trafford in early July to a contract until 2030. Two months later, everything was turned upside down.
Trafford made his debut at the start of the season, appeared in the first three Premier League games, had some “mandatory” goalkeeping blunders, but is seen as a potential England goalkeeper. Then Guardiola signed the world’s best goalkeeper, and Trafford’s playing time account was all but closed.

On the first of September, Gianluigi Donnarumma entered the training ground and Trafford was relegated to the bench. Trafford will get a few games on the line for City, but hardly enough to play themselves relevant for England’s World Cup squad. According to the Daily Mail , the 23-year-old has signalled he wants to leave City, five months after arriving.
The question is whether Trafford will be allowed to leave in January. Stefan Ortega has also realized that Donnarumma is shadowing the “playing time sun” and also wants to leave in January.
