The former Liverpool defender has changed his mind.

Every year, Jamie Carragher predicts the Premier League table before the season, knowing that more managers will be sacked during the season and that things will change.

Jamie Carragher has changed his mind regarding his opinion of Manchester United’s Premier League season – and he even referred to it as the “biggest mistake” he made in his pre-season predictions.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has updated his Premier League title prediction for this season – designating the Reds as favourites and suggesting that Arsenal could finish above Manchester City.

The Premier League could effectively be decided on Sunday.

Arne Slot’s side can move 11 points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s men with a win this Sunday when the teams meet at Anfield. Liverpool have won 17 of the 19 competitive games they have played this season and beat Real Madrid 2-0 in the Champions League midweek.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have lost five of their last six games in all competitions. The one game it didn’t lose was against Feyenoord in Europe when it let a 3-0 lead slip away at the Etihad Stadium.

“I actually think Arsenal can finish above Manchester City because of the problems they have in midfield,” Carragher said in a YouTube video for Sky Sports. “I’m going to Liverpool to win the league now. I think it will be the bookmakers’ favourite and they have a significant lead.

Carragher, 46, gave his original prediction during a Monday Night Football broadcast alongside Gary Neville in August.

The former Liverpool defender expressed how he thought United, then managed by Erik ten Hag, would finish fifth in the Premier League, and backed Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs to beat them to a top-four finish.

“Manchester United have made some big mistakes in the past,” he said in August.

“They’re buying younger players now, but let’s not see this being revolutionary.

“Sir Matt Busby did this in the 60s! There is nothing special they should be praised for. I think they will compete, but miss it. I think Tottenham have the advantage over them.”

Of course, a lot has happened since then, with Ten Hag losing his job while Amorim arrived at Old Trafford and took charge of his first Premier League game in a 1-1 draw with Ipswich at Portman Road last Sunday.

However, Carragher has now apparently had a change of heart and has given his “updated” prediction.

“Now in fifth place [for Man United], this is the biggest mistake I have made in my predictions”

“I put Manchester United in fifth place. I don’t think there’s a chance that Manchester United will end up in fifth place.

“I would be very surprised if they finish in the top six. I can’t really see that happening.”

The Red Devils are currently in 12th place in the league ahead of Sunday’s clash with Everton at Old Trafford.
