Jamie Gittens has passed the medical test at Chelsea, and the transfer will be announced shortly.

Left winger Jadon Sancho was on loan at Chelsea this spring with a purchase obligation. But rather than give him a contract, they opted to return to Manchester United and pay a £5 million fine for breaching the contract.

What is happening now at Stamford Bridge is no matter how you twist and turn it, a small blow to Jadon Sancho who was a teammate of Jamie Gittens at Borussia Dortmund and intended for the role that the left winger now takes over.

Chelsea are expected to announce the deal shortly.

Chelsea will pay Dortmund €64 million for the English talent, and Gittens has signed a seven-year contract until 2032. The Blues won the battle for the winger ahead of Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

The England youth international has been Chelsea’s priority target for the left-wing position this summer.

The German club demanded a whopping €100 million for Gittens in the January window, but his value plummeted after a weak second half of the season.

Although clubs are allowed to register new players during the play-off phase, a player becomes unavailable if he has already played for another club in the tournament – which Gittens has done.
