A little over a year ago, Jonas Svensson signed with the big club Besiktas. Little did the Norwegian player know that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would take over the coaching responsibilities in 2025, with what would be real wind in the sails for the Besiktas ship. And not just any ship, but a Viking ship.
Besiktas loves to use symbols in their marketing to showcase tradition, roots and strength. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became the “Eagle of the North”, this weekend the Turkish club released the video where Solskjaer, Svensson and selected players sail home after a raid and victory against the lion Galatasaray.

Svensson’s contract expires in the summer, but Solskjaer has been clear that he needs and wants Svensson to continue.
“Jonas will be here as long as he wants. He is very professional. He is very well liked by his teammates, the club and the fans. He is an important player in the squad,” Solskjaer said earlier this month.

On Saturday, the right-back helped stop two of Europe’s two best strikers, Victor Osimhen and Alvaro Morata in the 2-1 win against Galatasaray. Jonas Svensson is helping to breathe life into the hopes of Besiktas supporters that the Viking ship, steered by Solskjaer, will climb to the top in the next few years.
