Mourinho’s previous statements about Sancho
He told TNT Sports last year:
“As a player, we know his talent. We have seen what he can do. What happened at Man Utd – if I look at my own history – sometimes I fail with players.”
“Sometimes I couldn’t create the right understanding, I didn’t understand the player’s DNA, and I couldn’t help players develop in the right direction. In most cases, I did, but in some cases, I couldn’t.”
Mourinho continued:
“The boy made mistakes… but his manager failed to bring out the best in him”
“Sometimes we have to learn from experience and try to understand the nature of the player. They have the talent, but not the mentality you want in a player, so of course they will make mistakes. But the manager couldn’t bring out the best in him.”
“Normally there are many factors that come into play: the manager, the player, the family, the agent, the club. When I look at myself as a coach, I have many times brought out the best in players and helped them become what they are today.”
“While there are many factors, we are part of it. As coaches with more experience, we often experience déjà vu situations. As we get older, we try to help players in the right direction. In this case, they are trying to analyse what happened at Manchester United and what they see in him now.”
