Joshua King has been a bit under the radar for us at home on the mountain with games in Turkey and then in France. Now it’s the end of the 33-year-old Norwegian striker in Toulouse.

The French league consists of only 18 teams and thus only 34 games. – In the last Ligue 1 game of the season, on May 17, Joshua King provided the one goal in the victory over Eirik Horneland’s Saint-Étienne. Saint-Étienne is relegated and leaves Ligue 1, as does King without having a new club ready.

“It was a pleasure to wear the shirt and represent this club. Many ups and downs, but a great experience for both me and my family. Thank you for everything,” King wrote in a relatively emotional farewell post on Instagram on Monday.

Contract expires

King’s deal with Toulouse expires this summer, and the club has not officially expressed any desire to extend the partnership. The Norwegian striker joined French football from Turkish side Fenerbahçe before the start of the 2023/24 season.

In Toulouse, King had the opportunity to play alongside compatriots Warren Kamanzi and Aron Dønnum.

Career in numbers

The experienced striker has had a multifaceted career:

  • 62 caps and 20 goals for Norway (last appearance in 2021)
  • 6 goals and 4 assists this season in Ligue 1
  • Toulouse finished 10th in the league

The Way Forward

After starting his career as a junior at Manchester United, King has had a number of stays abroad. His most productive period was his six-year spell at Bournemouth, where he established himself as a reliable goalscorer in the Premier League.

With his experience and physique, it is likely that King still has something to offer either in a bigger European league or possibly in Scandinavia. His next career step is expected to be ready during the summer transfer window.

He may have played his last match in French football, but with his background, it is unlikely that this will be the end of the impressive career of the Norwegian international.
