Jürgen Klopp has been mentioned for an unthinkable career choice – taking over from Amorim at Manchester United. Amorim led United through their worst Premier League season ever, finishing 15th on 42 points and losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

Despite a win rate of just 38.1%, the Portuguese manager still has the trust of the United management and is gaining support in the transfer market – including the signing of Mateus Cunha from Wolves for €62.5 million. Amorim will be considered by United’s top team after the start of the season, but former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has already concluded that he may not be the right man for the job at Old Trafford.

In fact, Keown urged the club to hire Liverpool’s legendary manager Klopp, who transformed Liverpool from mediocrity to Champions League and Premier League winners.

Klopp left Anfield a year ago to become Head of Global Football at Red Bull, but Keown believes he would do an “incredible” job at United – although such a deal is highly unlikely.

Keown: “They could have done a lot worse than bringing in Klopp
“The number of games they’ve lost makes me still worried about whether this is the right manager for Manchester United,” he said on talkSPORT.

“It will be a very interesting start to the season. They could have done a lot worse than bringing in Jürgen Klopp to lead the club. I’m not trying to sensationalize – I actually think he could do an incredible job there. They need someone with more experience than the current manager.

“Why not?” He’s done it before. We compare their journey now. He’s done it before.

Klopp, whose former assistant Pep Lijnders will now work under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, has said he will never manage another Premier League club.

Keown: “United should sell Bruno Fernandes immediately
” This was not the only controversial opinion Keown made on the show. He also asked United to sell captain Bruno Fernandes, who has a lucrative offer from Saudi Al Hilal on the table.

Al Hilal are willing to pay around £100 million for Fernandes, who can earn up to £700,000 in weekly wages. According to Ben Jacobs, Fernandes has seven days to respond to the offer, so that Al Hilal can register him before the Club World Cup.

“Manchester United have to sell Bruno Fernandes, I think,” Keown said.

“I don’t think he, when they get where they want to go, will be able to press like you see Ousmane Dembélé do. PSG shows you how to play. Their midfield works as a unit. Fernandes is the icing on the cake player, but even then I don’t think he’s good enough for United. Sell him now.
