Today’s Bundesliga match between RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena against Wolfsburg was described by Bild as a game of destiny for manager Marco Rose.

RB Leipzig are going through a difficult period under Marco Rose’s leadership. After a start to the season far from expectations, especially in the Champions League where the German team has lost all games played, the club’s management is considering a change in the dugout.

In this context, the name of Xavi Hernández has emerged as a possible replacement. The Spanish coach, after his time at Barcelona, is reportedly on Leipzig’s radar to try and steer the team back on track in European and domestic competitions.

Marco Rose’s situation has been complicated by the poor results in the continental tournament, leaving the team on the verge of elimination. While Leipzig is still competitive in the Bundesliga, the lack of success in the Champions League has set off alarms at the club. The board believes that a change in philosophy could be key and sees Xavi as a coach capable of bringing a renewed and attacking vision, much like he did at Barcelona.

Success in the Bundesliga is what keeps Marco Rose in the job, today’s loss to Wolfsburg (down 0 – 4 at the time of writing) makes that “security” disappear.

On the other hand, Xavi Hernández could see RB Leipzig as an opportunity to return to coaching in a less media-exposed environment than the Camp Nou, but with significant challenges ahead of him. The German project, known for its focus on young talents and dynamic style, is in line with the football ideas of the Catalan coach.
