Wayne Rooney has had a quiet few months since he was sacked as Pllymouth Argyle manager, the time he uses to comment and criticise other players and coaches. When asked about the playmaker duel between Kevin de Bruyne and Steven Gerrard, Rooney puts the Belgian above the Liverpool icon.

In an interview on The Overlap, Rooney noted that City’s playmaker is slightly ahead in terms of attacking efforts, while acknowledging similarities between De Bruyne and Gerrard.
-Very similar, and in my opinion, De Bruyne is only slightly ahead in terms of attacking points, like Stevie. Similar qualities to Stevie, but more of an all-round player, but I think De Bruyne was unbelievable in the final third of the pitch,” Rooney boasted.
