Kevin de Bruyne wrote another chapter in his Manchester City legend when he secured an important 1-0 win over Wolverhampton in what could be his penultimate home game after ten years in a sky blue shirt.

It’s a bit strange that Manchester City are letting his contract expire without, as Kevin de Bruyne himself says, even making a proposal for an extension.

Every match is a farewell match! – Belgian master class when it matters

In a tough game at the Etihad Stadium, it was De Bruyne who showed why he is still Manchester City’s most important player. With his 108. Premier League goal in the 35th minute – after perfect interplay with Ilkay Gündogan and Jérémy Doku – the 32-year-old proved that the classic never goes out of style.

  • “It was a difficult game, but we found a way to win. We have found our flow again now,” a of course the Belgian told Sky Sports after the game.

An emotional farewell is approaching

De Bruyne has made no secret of the fact that he would prefer to stay, but acknowledges that his career at City is coming to an end:

  • “A lot of teammates have said they will miss me. That’s football. At least I’ve shown that I still have something to contribute,” he added with a twinkle in his eye, a reference to his impressive form in recent weeks.

On the sidelines, Erling Braut Haaland was waiting for his return from an ankle injury. Despite warming up, the Norwegian never came in, not even when Pep Guardiola made a triple change late in the game.

Wolves threatened

The visitors from Wolverhampton were far from easy opponents:

  • Rayan Aït-Nouri hit the post
  • Josko Gvardiol saved on the line
  • Matheus Cunha was dangerous repeatedly

But City’s defence held its own, and De Bruyne’s quality was again the difference.

Protest and Passion

The match had several stories:

  • City fans protested against ticket prices by arriving late
  • Jørgen Strand Larsen was present as a spectator and was seen in conversation with Haaland before the game

With this victory, City took an important step towards a Champions League place, while De Bruyne wrote himself even deeper into the club’s history books – perhaps for one of the last times at home.

A game that showed everything that makes De Bruyne a City legend: vision, leadership and the ability to deliver when it really matters.
