When Liverpool decided on Arne Slot as Jürgen Klopp’s replacement, then United manager Ten Hag said dryly: “It’s not as impressive as people make it out to be what Feyenoord have achieved in the Eredivisie. In June, Dane Brian Priske took over Slot’s job at Feyenoord. After seven months, he has realized what expectations Slot has created for the coach.
Priske has been warned on his way out in recent weeks, but was reported protected by the Feyenoord management. In the Champions League, the Dane has led the club through to the play-off round and will face AC Milan on Wednesday, but this will be without Priske.
With fifth place in the Eredivisie and the title out of reach, Feyenoord sack the coach two days before the Champions League match.
There is a long explanation from the management as to why they had to fire Priske right now.
“It is very disappointing for everyone that we have ended up with this decision. Feyenoord have certainly achieved impressive results with Brian in the Champions League, but in the last few months we have been too fluctuating and we have unfortunately seen too little progress,” says Dennis te Kloese, technical director to the club’s website.
“I still think highly of Brian, but sometimes you have to admit that even though everyone had good intentions, it didn’t work out and at some point there is no longer enough support to continue,” the Feyenoord director concludes.
Ajax plunged after Ten Hag’s exit, now Feyenoord are also in the process after Slot’s exit.
