From playing deeds to coaching roles
, Chivu is no stranger to the Inter environment:
- Played for the club 2007-2014 as a left-back
- Helped win the Champions League in 2010 under José Mourinho
- Helped secure 3 Serie A titles and 2 Coppa Italia trophies
- Has since 2014 worked with youth development in Inter’s academy
Coaching career takes off
After building experience with youth teams, Chivu got his breakthrough as head coach:
- Took over Parma in February 2024
- Impressed with tactical cleverness in Serie B
- Now he gets the chance in one of Europe’s most demanding jobs
Inter confirms the deal
The club has officially announced:
- 2-year contract for the former fan favorite
- Replacing Inzaghi after disappointing 5-0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League final
Alternative choice
Inter had first looked at Cesc Fàbregas, but Como refused to release the Spaniard after his strong Serie A season.
Chivu says to Inter’s website:
“This is a homecoming for me. Inter is more than a club – it’s a family. I’m up for the challenge and know what it takes to succeed here.”
Inzaghi has meanwhile found a new employer in Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia where he will receive a salary of 25 million euros.
With Chivu at the helm, Inter reunite with one of the club’s most popular players from the golden age under Mourinho. Now it remains to be seen if he can replicate the success from his time as a coach.
