The Bavarian big club has made a historic decision: Thomas Müller will not continue in the first team from next season. This is reported by German media such as Kicker and SportBild, and states that the club has already informed the 35-year-old veteran that his contract will not be extended beyond June.

It’s really the end of an era

The decision marks the end of one of European football’s most iconic careers. Müller – a product of Bayern’s own youth department – has been a mainstay of the club’s heyday over the past 15 years, with two Champions League titles and numerous domestic championships. He also helped win World Cup gold with Germany in 2014.

Despite his status as a club legend, the management has chosen not to continue with him on the pitch – partly driven by financial considerations. The former international has had a more peripheral role this season, with only eight Bundesliga appearances from the start and which the experts largely agree with with little impact on results.

Bayern, however, want to preserve ties. According to reports, the club is already working on a plan for Müller to remain associated with the organization in a representative role. It is also being considered to arrange a special tribute to honor his legacy.

It remains unclear whether Müller will retire or seek one last adventure – with MLS mentioned as a possible next stop.

Whatever the future holds, Thomas Müller stands undisputed as one of the greatest Bundesliga players of all time – and a rare one-club legend in modern football.
