Then it was done. Morten Thorsby and hired Leo Østigård will have an Italian football legend as their new boss. That is, from Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira to a Roma legend.

Vieira only got 11 months in the Genoa job. A meagre six points from ten league games and below the relegation zone in Serie A, made the management press the panic button.

On Wednesday, Danielle de Rossi got on the plane to Genoa to agree on the final details, on Thursday the confirmation came.

Roma legend De Rossi was brought in in January 2024 as a savior at the club he had served in a wild 616 games. Jose Mourino had been sacked at Roma, De Rossi led the club to the semi-finals of the Europa League and a solid 6th place in Serie A – and was rewarded with a contract extension in June until 2027. Three months later, completely incomprehensibly, the Roma management fires the same man.

After the tenacious exit from Roma, De Rossi has engaged as an assistant coach for the Italian national team (has 117 games in the blue shirt) and bought the club Ostiamare. Now, the all-in de Rossi returns to the Serie A ring.

We think De Rossi is a coach Solbakken gives the thumbs up for.
