Russell Martin will wait to accept new coaching offers to see if the Leeds United job becomes available in the coming months. The former Southampton manager reportedly “really likes” the idea of moving north to take over Leeds after their promotion to the Premier League.

Martin was sacked from Southampton in December and has since been out of work. Although he has been linked with several clubs, he remains available in the coaching market. As a talented young coach, he has several options, but reports indicate that he is willing to wait to see if Elland Road becomes a real option.

Martin “really interested” in the Leeds job

Leeds are considering sacking Daniel Farke despite promotion

According to a report by EFL Analysis, Martin appears to be “determined” to land a new job this summer – and it could be at Leeds. The club are reportedly looking for a replacement for Daniel Farke, despite the fact that the German just secured them promotion from the Championship.

Leicester City have also been mentioned as a possible destination for Martin, as the Foxes are looking for a new manager following Ruud van Nistelrooy’s problems. Leicester have not scored at home in the Premier League since December 8 – a frightening statistic.

But even though Martin is open to Leicester, he reportedly prefers the Leeds job. The report suggests that Martin would “really like” to take over Leeds if Farke is sacked, despite the promotion. Therefore, he is willing to wait to see what offers come, rather than immediately consider other roles such as Leicester or Rangers.

Farke under pressure – Martin’s weak Premier League stats

Farke is believed to be under pressure due to his previous Premier League history with Norwich City, where he only collected 21 points in his first season before being sacked. Two years later, he had only five points in 11 games before he was dismissed again.

Martin’s results with Southampton this season were even worse – the same score as Farke, but from five extra games before he was sacked. This is despite the fact that Pep Guardiola called him “exceptional” earlier in the season.

Key stats: Russell Martin won 33 of 73 games as Southampton manager.

Still, his philosophy and a stronger Leeds squad than the one he had at Southampton could make him a good candidate for the job if he gets the support of 49ers Enterprises, who are planning major investments in the club this summer.
