Lillestrøm is powerfully back in the Eliteserien after winning the OBOS-League last season with a whopping 25 points to second place. The Canaries will have to do without striker Moctar Diop, who they have sold to Belgian giants Gent for one million euros plus a share of any resale.

The Senegalese was brought from Aalesund to Lillestrøm in the autumn of 2024 and has played a total of 39 league and cup games for LSK, with ten goals scored.

“I have really had a great time in Lillestrøm. Good guys and nice people, and I want to thank the whole team, both the players, the coaches and the whole organization. I wish you all the best. Thank you so much to everyone,” Moctar says in a farewell greeting to the club.

“Really sporty”

Sports director Espen Olsen states the following about the sale of Diop:

“This was the right choice for Lillestrøm when we came to an agreement with Gent. With Thomas Lehne Olsen, and two exciting attacking players in KP Arierhi and Markus Wæhler – who is also younger than Moctar – we have considered this to be the right sporting choice.”

In Gent, director Kjeld Fort is pleased to have brought in the 193 cm tall striker:

“Moctar Diop is a young goalkeeper we have been following for a while. He combines speed with an impressive physique, qualities that are exceptional for a striker. We are convinced that Diop has the potential to develop further here. The competition was fierce, so we are proud that he chose us.”
