Liverpool are gushing on. The reigning Premier League champions are building on a title-winning squad, with Darwin Nunez closing the door on further opportunities to convince. The 26-year-old has been linked with Napoli and other Serie A clubs earlier this summer, but now it looks like it could be a completely different choice being made, one that sends the Uruguayan international out of “the best company”, during the year before the 2026 World Cup.

On Wednesday, the hyperactive transfer journalist Romano reports Saudi Arabian club with Inzaghi as coach is close to signing the Liverpool striker. The clubs have agreed on a transfer fee and conditions, for the club from the “Ronaldo League” a big prestige signing, for Liverpool the necessary sales income to bring in the last reinforcements in the summer transfer window.

Does this mean done deal?

Not quite. Talks are ongoing between Nunez and the club over personal terms, Inzaghi has put the Liverpool striker as a top priority in the transfer market, but the 26-year-old has previously signalled that he would prefer to stay in Europe (Napoli unfortunately did not have the money to carry a transfer).

There has been some speculation on social media that Nunez could be part of a possible swap with Newcastle to get the Alexander Isak deal done. At the same time, Liverpool would hardly have opened up for the sale of Nunez if they do not believe that they will bring in a replacement.

With the agreement between Liverpool and the Saudi Arabian club, it is now apparently up to Nunez to make the decision whether he is ready to leave the UEFA zone for the Saudi Arabian money binge.
