Liverpool and Manchester United are battling it out for RB Leipzig star David Raum.

The scouts from Liverpool and Manchester United were present at RB Leipzig’s game at the weekend. That in itself is not unusual – after all, they have been following winger Yan Diomande very closely in recent months. It was a completely different player who was the main reason why they appeared.

Leipzig strengthened their pursuit of a top-four finish with a 1-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. Diomande, who always impresses, scored his 11th goal of the season. The highly-rated striker has been closely monitored by both Liverpool and United for months, along with a number of other top clubs. But attention is no longer just focused on Diomande.

“Raum in brilliant shape”

Sources have confirmed that Leipzig captain David Raum has also emerged as a player of significant interest to both Premier League giants in recent months.

The German international left-back has been in brilliant form this season. In the weekend’s victory, he delivered a performance that earned him the award as the best on the pitch – a performance that did not go unnoticed by the scouts.

The fact that Raum has now become a hot target comes at a particularly opportune time. Both Premier League rivals are actively looking for his position.

Liverpool follow THREE stars from RB Leipzig

As we have previously reported, United are actively looking for a left-back who can compete with Luke Shaw. Liverpool are also out in the market as they prepare for Andy Robertson to leave the club.

According to our sources, the Reds want a player who can both fill the void left by Robertson and challenge Milos Kerkez for a starting spot at Anfield.

Raum’s profile – he combines experience at the absolute top level, leadership skills and offensive quality – makes him a very attractive option for both clubs.

Raum only has 12 months left on his current contract. That makes him extra attractive in the upcoming transfer window.

Leipzig, on the other hand, want to keep both Raum and Diomande while they build on their progress. But their resolve may be tested.

Lukeba on his way out – can open the door

RB Leipzig have already agreed to let centre-back Castello Lukeba leave the team this summer. His departure could play a key role in reshaping both the squad and the economy. Here, too, Liverpool are interested – along with Diomande.

That situation could open the door for Leipzig to extend with key players. But it can also give interested clubs a golden opportunity to strike.
