Mohamed Salah contributed with a goal against Aston Villa. This means that the Egyptian superstar has now recorded 250 goals for Liverpool.

Liverpool have struggled, and before the game against Aston Villa, the leaderboard was four straight losses in the Premier League. Now the crisis has been averted, at least temporarily.

Aston Villa were close to a dream start at Anfield. Morgan Rogers received the ball on the left side of the penalty area and fired a shot towards the far corner. The ball hit the post after five minutes of play.

A little before half-time, Liverpool had a ball in the net when Hugo Ekitike nodded in a cross behind Emiliano Martinez. But there was no goal, as the Frenchman found himself in an offside position when he headed.

Nevertheless, Liverpool took the lead in the first half. For the second Premier League game in a row, Mohamed Salah netted, and it was a gift. Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez made a mistake in his own penalty area, allowing the Egyptian to make it 1-0 in an open goal.

“What a player, Mo Salah. He’s had a tough time since the summer, but if you’re going to give him gifts like this, it’s risk versus reward – it has to be better,” said former Leeds striker Lucy Ward of TNT Sports, according to the BBC.

She continued:
“Won’t that be one of the easier goals he has scored?”

Michael Emons, a reporter for the BBC, did not mince words about Martinez’s actions.
“Terribly wrong,” Emons wrote.

Salah also reached a milestone. The star has now scored 250 goals in a Liverpool shirt, and only Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285) have scored more goals than him in the club’s history.

“Salah has been brilliant tonight. He has given Digne a difficult game. This has to be the Egyptian’s best performance this season,” wrote The Athletic’s James Pearce on X.

Liverpool led 1-0 at half-time.

The home side at Anfield extended their lead, and Ryan Gravenberch made it 2-0 just over a quarter of an hour into the second half. The Dutchman fired a shot from the half-moon, and the finish hit a Villa player, which put Martinez out of play.

Liverpool, who were missing the injured Alexander Isak, won the game 2-0 at home at Anfield. They are currently in third place in the Premier League. Aston Villa, where Victor Nilsson Lindelöf was an unused substitute for the entire game, are in eleventh place.
