The player left Liverpool in the summer of 2025 and has since impressed at his new club.

Liverpool could be ready to bring back a former academy product, despite selling him for £35 million a few months ago.

After the team’s Premier League title-winning season in Arne Slot’s first year in charge, Liverpool were active in the summer transfer window of 2025 and welcomed seven new signings – including Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitiké – to Anfield this summer.

At the same time, several players left the club, with Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving for Real Madrid, Luis Díaz for Bayern Munich, Darwin Núñez signing for Al-Hilal, as well as Tyler Morton, Ben Doak, Caoimhín Kelleher and Nat Phillips all leaving the club on permanent transfers.

Centre-back Jarell Quansah ended his 17-year involvement with the club and signed for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen for £35 million.

But can he return to his childhood club soon?

According to TeamTalk, Liverpool have been following the player for the past month and are now intensifying their consideration of a summer reunion after scouts were present at Leverkusen’s last four games, with the team conceding just one goal in that period.

Leverkusen are currently in sixth place in the Bundesliga, but can boast the third-best defence in the league, behind Bayern and Borussia Dortmund.

Despite signing Giovanni Leoni from Parma in the summer, and are ready to welcome Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes next season, the return of Quansah is still on the table and part of internal discussions among the club’s management.

TeamTalk reports that Liverpool introduced a buy-back clause in the deal for a fixed sum, which is set to come into effect in 2027.

Leverkusen will not put any obstacles in the way of the England international, and can agree to sell him for a sum of around £52.5 million, which would give them a profit of approximately £17.5 million on the player.

The player opened up about why he left Liverpool when he spoke to ESPN in October, revealing that he needs “hundreds of games” to fulfil his potential.

“I think that’s why the decision was made and why I thought going abroad was best for me,” he said.

However, with Virgil van Dijk nearing the end of his career, and Ibrahima Konaté with a contract that expires at the end of the season, Quansah could be aiming to secure a starting spot if he reunites with his former club.

Since arriving in Germany, the 23-year-old defender has made 32 appearances for his new club, scoring four goals.

Quansah has a contract with Leverkusen until the summer of 2030.
